I get the following error when I run my JSP file in Eclipse-Juno with Tomcat v7:
'starting Tomcat v7.0 server at localhost' has encountered a problem. Port 8080 required by Tomcat v7.0 server at localhost is already in use. The server may already be running in another process, or a system process may be using the port. To start this server you will need to stop the other process or change the port number(s).
I have Oracle 10g installed in my System. When I type 'http://localhost:8080' it opens the Oracle 10g license agreement so I think Oracle 10g is already running in that port.
To change the port of Tomcat I tried Google, which said to change the port in the 'C:Program FilesApache Software FoundationApache Tomcat 7.0.14confhttpd.conf' file
But at 'C:Program FilesApache Software FoundationApache Tomcat 7.0.14conf' there was no httpd.conf file.
I only have 'catalina.policy,catalina.properties,context,logging.properties,server,tomcat-users,web' files in that conf folder. I use windows XP. Starting Tomcat V7.0 Server At Localhost (2 Has Encountered A Probl Key

You're looking for 'server.xml':
<Connector connectionTimeout='20000' port='8080' protocol='HTTP/1.1' redirectPort='8443'/>
paulsm4paulsm4
there is a software in your system use port 8080double click on your server configuration on server view and under the port section, change it to something else Ex:9090
if you trying to run tomcat outside of eclipse locate apache-tomcat-install-dirconfserver.xmland change the port there.

Servers view double-click on Tomcat and change HTTP port in Ports section to something else. Or in Package Explorer navigate to Servers Tomcat and change Connector port part inside server.xml file.

to overcome this kind of problem follow the steps below:
susisusi
In eclipse->in server tap-> double click on Tomcat server at localhost-> Ports -> HTTP/1.1
Default port number will be 8080. Change this to 8081.Tomcat version7.0
I have configured tomcat server also in NetBeans IDE 7.4 for JSP. So am facing this issue.

100% full result guaranty working;;;;method 1: ->type localhost:8080 in your browser to know which process taking 8080 port ->uninstall that program
*************** OR *************
method 2: ->re-install the apache tomcat BUT during installation change the port number Watch carefully the installation process..........
my pleasure in advance...... by vinayaka cn and Guru Prasad....
vinayaka cnvinayaka cn
Open the terminal in ubuntu (ctrl+shift+t)
sudo gedit /etc/tomcat7/server.xml
change the default port in the server.xml, from 8080 to anything like 8081,8181,8008.Then save the file .
Now the project will work nicely without any interruption.

I was having the same problem when my workspace was in E: drive. Then I changed my workspace location to C:User location. The problem seems to be solved now.

Hey i got the solution recently...Just copy the 'ROOT' folder FROM C:Program Files Apache Software Foundation Tomcat 7.0 webapps TOyour_Workspace .metadata .plugins org.eclipse.wst.server.core tmp0 wtpwebappsand over write it when asked..
This is needed because eclipse forgets to copy that root folder to its workspace.. Just right click on Apache tomcat 7.0 in servers tab and observe that in location will be workspace metadata by default example:'location:[workspace metadata]'.Therefore it will find the root folder which has the welcome page in it and the 404 page not found error will be displayed.Thankyou ..

nop... just open the four dateis: content.xml; server.xml; tomcat-users.xml and web.xml in the tap servers. There are some text. Change the number of port 8080 to 8081

I'm trying to launch a server on my tomcat 7 on my eclipse indigo EE
and I get the following error:
'starting Tomcat v7.0 server at localhost' has encountered a problem.
The specified JRE installation does not exist'
I checked the build path configuration and on the libraries section I have the
JDK7 as JRE System Libraray and when I check 'Installed JREs...' the correct path is there - 'C:Program FilesJavajdk1.7.0_01'.
What else can be done? Many thanks.
p.s. - I'm also using maven 3.0.3

Double click on the server to bring up the Overview.
Click on Runtime Environment.
Select the JRE from the dropdown list. You may need to set this up by clicking on Installed JREs and clicking Add.

If the instructions above did not help you can do the following:
1- from the run menu choose 'Run configurations...'
2- Choose your maven run profile and then click on the 'JRE' tab.
3- Select 'Alternate JRE' and from the drop down select 'jdk1.7xxx' (or whatever jdk you want to use'you can also select the workspace default jre.
I was facing the same problem and this helped.

Go to Properties → Java Build Path → Libraries.
Here you will see a red cross on the library whose path is not correct.
Select this library, click the Edit button, and change it to the correct path.

For Eclipse MARS, for maven projects.
After you install the new JRE as explained (for instance here: http://javahonk.com/specified-jre-installation-does-not-exist/), don't use your old configuration, BUT create a new configuration.

Updated the Java , JRE. so I have faced this same issue, I have tried all this but i continued with this issue. then after that, i have removed the server from application and then added new server and with that i have mentioned new JRE version now its working fine.

At my case, I've changed the JRE installed at Eclipse and still the messages came out.
So,
Afterwards, a new right click at Jboss Server > Clean, and the Jboss Server stopped the message.
Hope it helps.
